Diagram of how 4th cousin matches work in autosomal DNA testing

Simulated relationship between two DNA testers who show on each other's match lists as 4th cousins. The ancestry of one tester is represented on the left (starting with her parent's generation) and a second person who matches with 1 segment, 14 cM or 0.19% is represented on the right (also starting at parents generation). Note the complex inheritance of haplotypes, which are not shared between the matches.
